Introduction
“The Jew was big, his hair black, his hands bound behind his back, his tongue hanging out, his head on a side. In this way he hung for three days, beginning to stink. In the evening when Jews came from work, they had to march by the hanging man, and the commandant pointed to him and said, ‘This is what will happen to every Jew who tries to run away from us’” (Holliday, 1995, pg.58). This quote was found in the diary of an eight year old Jewish boy living in the ghetto during the Holocaust (Holliday, 1995). The Holocaust was a deadly, horrible event in history that affected people of all different ages and races. Among these people were innocent little children, and for those who survived this tragedy, it affected them for the rest of their lives.
This digital museum exhibit will explore the lifestyles of various types of children who were affected during the Holocaust. Education, work experience and the living conditions will be compared and contrasted between the Jewish children and the children of Aryan descent. This exhibit will end with a comparison of the two different races’ lives after the war.
Before the discussion on the lifestyles of different children during the Holocaust can begin, this digital museum exhibit will start off with an overview of why the Holocaust occurred and the history behind the war.
