Living Conditions for Children
Many of the Jewish children or other children who were discriminated against had very different life styles during the Holocaust. These lifestyles can also be compared, but mainly contrasted to, the lifestyle of the Aryan children. This section will go into detail of the lifestyle of children living in the ghetto, the lifestyle of hidden children as well as the lifestyle of those who worked in the concentration camps. Once these lifestyles are compared, they will be contrasted to the lifestyles the Aryan children had during this time.
Life in the Ghetto |
Living in the Ghetto was a horrible experience for all Jewish people. The Germans thought that if they isolated the Jews, it would help to kill their entire population. The Ghettos started in Poland where severe overcrowding took place due to the vast amounts of people that the German government forced into such a small area. These ghettos soon spread and before long, over 1,000 ghettos were all over annexed Poland. These ghettos also spread into other countries that Germany invaded. The very first ghetto took place in central Poland in October of 1939. Soon other major ghettos were established such as Lodz and the largest ghetto, Warsaw. Warsaw’s population exceeded 400,000 Jews within a total area of 1.3 square miles (Heberer, 2011).
